I must say it's the best movie I've seen this year (so far). It more than lived up to the hype that's been surrounding it for months. The story line was very good except I was a bit confused about one part (no spoilers here) as I thought that it happened differently in the comic books and Mark agreed with me but as side from that minor point, I was very impressed by it. As for Heath Ledger I can now see why people think he should deserve an Academy Award or Oscar for the role, it was a very difficult role to play and he really did it justice. Better than Jack Nicholson? Honestly I love both Jokerl's for different reasons, I don't think either is better than the other. Heath's performance was a lot more sadistic than that of Jack. The writer's did an excellent job on the Joker character. As for the other actors they all did an amazing job I especially loved Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent), Michael Caine (Alfred) and Gary Oldman (Detective Gordon) they helped make the movie what it is. As for Christian Bale I think he is the best Batman so far, I have more empathy for this Batman than I did for any of the others. In short I loved this movie, however I could feel it dragging a bit in some parts and could really tell it was going on for 2 and a half-ish hours. =/ But, I loved it nonetheless. |
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Tim Burton |

Writer: John Logan (screenplay) Stephen Sondheim (musical); 2007 Genre: Crime | Drama | Musical | Thriller Length: Rating:

I was really impressed with it. Especially the story line and the amount of gore they put into the movie. I think Johnny Depp played the psychotic role of Sweeney Todd very well. |
Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Dave Filoni |
Writer: Henry Gilroy (screenplay) George Lucas (characters and universe); 2008 Genre: Animation | Action | Adventure | Sci-Fi Length: Rating:

I went to see Star Wars: The Clone Wars with Mark. Thoughts? Pretty good story line (I felt that that you needed to see the tv show (Clone Wars) to understand a lot of what was going on - which I hadn't), awesome animation, recommend to any Star Wars fans. |
Space Chimps, Kirk De Micco |
Writer: Kirk De Micco (screenplay) and Robert Moreland (screenplay); 2008 Genre: Animation | Adventure | Comedy | Family | Romance | Sci-Fi Length: Rating:

Space Chimps was watchable but one I'd more likely recommend you watch on DVD, it had it's funny moments but I was left thinking for a lot of it "What were they smoking when they made this!?" The plot seemed to make sense and then made none at all - very hit and miss but again I say watchable. |
Saw 4, Darren Lynn Bousman |
Writer: Patrick Melton (screenplay) & Marcus Dunstan (screenplay); 2007 Genre: Horror| Thriller Length: Rating:

In all honesty it was pretty good overall in some places although predictable in a lot of others. I liked the background info on Jigsaw/John though. The big trap I thought was a tad tame in comparison to others. I didn't really feel sorry for any of the characters to be honest except for flash back related people (trying not to be a movie spoiler here). I knew that one of the characters was still alive from previous films though! All in all Saw 3 was loads better in my opinion. Now we all have Saw 5 to look forward to next Halloween, [insert sarcastic yay here]. |
Rambo, Sylvester Stallone |
Writer: Art Monterastelli (written by) and Sylvester Stallone (written by); 2008 Genre: Action | Drama | Thriller Length: Rating:

I'd recommend it if you liked the first one (Rambo: The First Blood) or simply if you like action/adventure type films with gore. It was pretty gory (I love gore!) and was very much bang, bang, bang, boom, bang, bang, boom, bang, BIG EXPLOSION! More bang, bang, boom. Lots and lots of guns, bombs etc.Artillery galore in that movie.I don't usually enjoy such war-esque (it's fun to make-up words) movies but there was just something about this one that I loved, whether it was the fact that there really was so much gore or that it was just classic Rambo with his grunting and kicking of enemy ass (maybe both) I don't know, all I do know is how much I enjoyed the movie. |
Quantum of Solace, Marc Forster |
Writer: Paul Haggis (written by) and Neal Purvis (written by); 2008 Genre: Action | Adventure | Thriller Length: Rating:

An action packed movie with little storyline to back it up. I spent most of the movie entertained but that was mainly due to all the action it had. It's watch-able but I wouldn't watch it again. |
National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Jon Turteltaub |
Writer: Marianne Wibberley (screenplay) & Cormac Wibberley (screenplay); 2007 Genre: Action | Adventure | Mystery | Thriller Length: 0 Rating:

National Treasure 2 was very good, Nicholas Cage was as funny as he was in the last previous film and it lived up to my expectations of it. As sequels go I think it was as good as (if not better than) the first one. |
Hellboy, Guillermo del Toro |
Writer: Guillermo del Toro (screenplay) Guillermo del Toro (story); 2004 Genre: Action | Adventure | Fantasy Length: 0 Rating:

After having seen the sequel I decided I really wanted to see this one as well. It lived up to the expectations I had for it (from seeing the sequel) I liked knowing the back stories of the characters especially of Hellboy and Liz. |
Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Guillermo del Toro |
Writer: Guillermo del Toro (screenplay) Guillermo del Toro (story); 2008 Genre: Action | Adventure | Fantasy Length: Rating:

I had mixed feelings going into the cinema to see this movie, I didn't think I was going to enjoy or understand it having not seen the first one (Hellboy) but I was presently surprised. I laughed and was entertained throughout even if there were some things I didn't understand, e.g. Why does Hellboy love kittens so much? I'd recommend it if you like the typical action/fantasy comic book hero movies (even if you haven't seen the first Hellboy). It has made me want to see the first one! |
Halloween, Rob Zombie |
Writer: Rob Zombie (screenplay) John Carpenter (1978 screenplay); 2007 Genre: Horror Length: Rating:

I really enjoyed the in depth back story into Michael Myers and why he became a killer on that unforgettable Halloween night in which he murdered his sister. The detail was amazing compared to that of the original film. If you have seen the original or just like slasher flicks I'd recommend it. |
Death Race, Paul W.S. Anderson |

Writer: Paul W.S. Anderson (screenplay) Paul W.S. Anderson (screen story); 2008 Genre: Genre: Action | Adventure | Thriller Length: Rating:

Fast cars, explosions, gore... What could be better. ;) |
AVPR: Aliens vs Predator - Requiem, Colin Strause| Greg Strause |
Shane Salerno (written by) Dan O\'Bannon (\"Alien\" characters)en\" characters); 2007 Genre: Genre: Action | Horror | Sci-Fi Length: Rating:

My opinion? Not as good as the first due to a personal preference of there being a severe lack of face huggers! It's just not the same without the face huggers. I don't really want to give too much away in case anyone is planning on seeing it but there was one line in the movie (the only line according to Mark) which has been so overused that it wasn't funny even though everyone laughed anyway. It was about the American government. |
